SDO is now collecting plastic shopping / shipping bags to create our very own Bag Monster! It’ll kind-of become our mascot! The Bag Monster® is a costume worn by a local volunteer to visually show the impact single-use plastic bags have on our environment. These flighty bags end up in trees, along roadsides and washed up on sea shores. Each costume is decked out with 500 plastic bags, the average amount an American uses in one year. We figured it’d be a good eye-opening conversation starter, and a good way to get people starting to think about their shopping habits. We’re not advocating paper bags, by any means; we recommend that you bring your own reusable bags with you when you go shopping.
