Green Week at OWU


The Environment and Wildlife Club at Ohio Wesleyan University has a whole week’s worth of events planned for April 17 through Earth Day, Saturday, April 22. Here’s a link to their large PDF poster (best printed on legal size paper) and below is the schedule of events.

These events are all open to the public and they’d love to see people from the broader Delaware Community come–especially to the Earth Day Concert!

Green Week 2017

What’s Your Ecosphere? (How Environmentalism Relates to YOU)

Monday, April 17th: Everyday
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Tabling!
    • Hamilton Williams Campus Center Atrium, 40 Rowland Ave., 11am-1pm
    • Come visit our Green Week Table and learn how to reduce, reuse, and recycle in your everyday life! Check out our 5 minute shower playlists and receive a free shower timer to help cut back on water use! Learn about different clothing recycling programs, and about different ways to cut back in your everyday life!
  • DIY Green Cleaning Product Workshop
    • Milligan Hub, Stuyvesant Hall Basement, 223 West William Street, 5-7 pm
    • Come join the Environment and Wildlife Club to celebrate Green Week by learning how to make eco friendly cleaning products from simple items around the house! We will be teaching you how to make an all purpose cleaning spray, and laundry detergent! You’ll get a small sample to take home, as well as learn how to make more when you run out!

Tuesday, April 18th: At OWU

  • Honey Hills Farm Petting Zoo on the Jay!
    • The JAYwalk (the walking path through the middle of campus, with a fountain between Beeghly Library and the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center,) 11am-1pm
    • Join us for Green Week and come visit Honey Hills Farm as they bring sheep, chickens, goats, cows, mini alpacas, and more to campus! You will be able to pet and feed all the animals, and learn more about sustainability and environmental initiatives at OWU!
  • Beekeeper Club Tabling
    • Hamilton Williams Campus Center Atrium, 40 Rowland Ave., 11am-1pm
    • Come to our Green Week table in ‘HamWil’ to learn about OWU’s bee hives and learn about what it’s like to be a beekeeper.

Wednesday, April 19th: In Ohio

  • Don’t Frack Ohio Tabling
    • Hamilton Williams Campus Center Atrium, 40 Rowland Ave., 11am-1pm
    • Come visit our Green Week table and learn about the harm of fracking and the efforts to stop fracking in Wayne National Forest!
  • A Talk With the Buckeye Environmental Network
    •  The House of Peace and Justice, 94B Rowland Ave., 4:30-6pm
    • Come celebrate Green Week and learn about environmentalism in Ohio with the Buckeye Environmental Network and the House of Peace and Justice!
Thursday, April 20th: In the US
  • US Environmental Policy Tabling
    • Hamilton Williams Campus Center Atrium, 40 Rowland Ave., 11am-1pm
    • Join the OWU Environment and Wildlife Club in celebrating Green Week by learning about environmental policy in the US, especially relating to the Trump presidency and the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • “Trees in Trouble” Screening and Director’s Talk
    • Schimmel Comrades Science Center, Rm 163, 90 South Henry Street, 7-9pm
    • Come join the OWU Environment and Wildlife Club in celebrating Green Week by viewing the film “Trees in Trouble” produced by local filmmaker Andrea Torrice. “Trees in Trouble tells the story of America’s urban and community forests: their history, their growing importance to our health, economy and environment–and the serious threats they now face. Through stories of everyday people on the frontlines of change, the film will show how community-wide efforts can save and protect our urban forests for future generations.”

Friday, April 21st: Other Countries

  • Environmentalism Around the World Tabling
    • Hamilton Williams Campus Center Atrium, 40 Rowland Ave., 11am-1pm
    • Come visit our Green Week table and learn about different sustainability initiatives around the world! We will have a fun little game and will be giving away free coffee cups!
  • Campuswide Trash Cleanup
    • Meet at the Fountain on the JAYwalk, 4pm
    • Come help beautify our campus! We will be working with OWU Buildings & Grounds, Community Service Learning, the VP for Student Engagement and Success, and the Interfraternity Council! We will be picking up trash all over campus and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Saturday, April 22nd

  • Earth Day Concert
    • The Amphitheater, NE corner of Washington St. and Rowland Ave., 6-9pm
    • Come celebrate Earth Day by jamming out with some earth friendly tunes provided by musicians from the OWU and Delaware Community! Enjoy some yummy vegetarian and vegan food, and participate in eco friendly games! Love our planet, and have fun!
